Alda Block Wassenberg, 86, Topeka, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007. The rosary was prayed at 2 and 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, Oct. 13, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca. The Rev. Mike Koller officiated. The church choir and Cyril Steinlage sang. The lector was Bob Strathman. Giftbearers were Leah Kirklin, Leslie McGeoy, Heather Wassenberg and Cassie Collar. Eucharistic ministers were Bob and Grace Strathman and Kevin Hunninghake. Burial was in Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery, Seneca.
Alda Wassenberg was born Aug. 24, 1921, at Seneca, the daughter of Francis and Bertha Block. She attended Blue Star School near Seneca.
She married Edmund A. “Wassie” Wassenberg on Aug. 27, 1941, at Seneca. They lived at Kelly. In 1943, her husband co-owned Wassenberg-Sudbeck Truck Line. They moved to Seneca in 1946, where her husband owned Wassenberg Construction. After he died, she moved to Topeka. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include six children, Roger Wassenberg, Shawnee, Marilyn Campbell, Albuquerque, Bob Wassenberg, Judy Gudenkauf, Patti Allen, Topeka, and Donna Severy, Santa Barbara; sisters, Helen Hammes, Seneca, Bea Fitzpatrick, Iowa City, Iowa, and Grace Strathman, Seneca; and her brother, Bill Block, Leawood.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her twin sister, Alma Randall, and her brother, Francis Block.
